Flexibility, accessibility, and user-friendliness are some of the most important ingredients in a disability friendly office space. The flexibility ensures that the office joinery is adjustable to fit the individual user’s needs. The accessibility makes it possible for everyone to use desks and that there is plenty of legroom under the desk. And the user-friendliness makes it easy to adjust and operate the different joinery and cabinetry.
The space/building should be designed to facilitate the easy and safe access and flow of all workers. Safety must be addressed in a number of different ways including flooring selection, infection control, universal accessibility, fire safety, air quality, security and privacy. The NDIS has enabled the improvement of the economic and social outcomes for Australians with a significant and permanent disability by providing them with funding for reasonable and necessary supports. Whilst the SDA has provided a life-changing support to participants, it has also empowered, given independence and autonomy over privacy and personal relationships.
