Different combinations of top/bottom seals, as well as their various board/panel constructions and face finishes, are critical in the wall’s ability to prevent heat from moving through solid parts of the wall, such as panels and rails. Furthermore, different jamb configurations significantly prevent the loss of heat from air movement near and in the space between the panel and its frame. Operable walls, therefore, can sustainably reduce the energy consumption required to heat or cool the relevant space.
Careful consideration should be given to choosing face finishes which assist in absorbing or reflecting heat and sound as required. These different surface finishes can improve the NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient)/reverberation of the space through sound absorption. Clients can choose between glass, or a combination of multiple solid materials, including timber veneers, high-pressure laminates, two-pack polyurethane, colour back glass and fabric face finishes. The choice depends on the look, feel, acoustic and energy environment you are trying to create in the various spaces.
